43014 leads 43062 with the NMT working away from Castle Cary, after a quick turn-around at Westbury the train returned within the hour eventually ending up at Weymouth - 24/10/13
1/800th sec is sufficient to stop 43186 in it's tracks (pardon the pun!) at Oldfield park Bath with another FGW service from the capital for Bristol and beyond - 10/06/13
43156 seen at Sydney Gardens Bath (where else?) with a service from London Paddington. It's not so much that I took the number on this occasion, it's just easy to read it off the image. Don't really know why all the fuss about the new "garden fencing", at this well known location, I just leaned over it - 04/06/13
Another number read off the image, 43034 leads 1O43 10.00 Penzance to London Waterloo. Due to extensive engineering works at Reading, FGW services from Devon and Cornwall to the capital were run up to Westbury and then down the Wyle valley before carrying on to the capitol from Salisbury. Poor light but worth a record, climbing up out of Old Dilton heading for Warminster - 30/03/13
43094 climbs Brewham bank with a London bound service. I'm so tempted to borrow a chain saw and remove the small tree in the right foreground, best not too though, the farmer comes around regularly in his Shogun and isn't that friendly (unlike his dogs) - 27/03/13
43056 leads a London bound service through Clink road junction Frome. Well known rail photographer Tom Curtis lives a few hundred yards behind the chimney seen above the first carriage. I'm sure he won't mind me saying, he always mentions it on his own site (which is well worth a visit) - 20/03/13
43143 seen leading a London bound service having just emerged from Alderton tunnel (between Chipping Sodbury and Royal Wotton Bassett). This unit is named Stroud 700 but I'm afraid the naming of HSTs (and a number of 66s) is kind of lost on me when you see some of the things chosen to be carried - 14/03/13
A few hundred metres further down (un-named)43174 leads another in a seemingly endless procession of FGW services between South Wales/Bristol and the capital - 14/03/13
Lavington tree-attack victim 43041 now fully recovered is seen passing Farleaze with a westbound service. Although already familiar with Pig lane (bridge in the distance) I elected to walk from the Fosseway bridge at Alderton. After more than 1/4 mile I arrived here and realised it would have been much simpler to hop into the field off the bridge - good job I like walking - 05/03/13
A (or it it An?..) uHST (unidentified HST) heads west at Hullavington - 04/03/13
Another "namer", this one named after a signal box(!). 43142 has just passed under Fosseway road bridge at Alderton with a load more people who want to go to South Wales - 20/02/13
43140 speeds through the cracking location of Compton Beauchamp east of Swindon - 19/02/13
No chance of getting the number off this image, nice beard though driver. uHST heads West at line speed (whatever that means (maybe "flat out?")) at Shrivenham - 19/02/13
43013 is seen bringing up the rear of 1Q24 Exeter to Weymouth (via Westbury) at Berkley near Frome. 43014 was up the front. Very pleased with this image as I was not expecting this working - you know what they say, "fail to prepare... just be bloody jammy" - that's the motto this website is built on!! - 24/01/13
uHST coming off the line from Chippenham passes 66114 waiting for the road at Royal Wootton Bassett. The 66 was there for a while, maybe that's why the driver literally had his feet up - looks like maybe a size 10, wide fit - you know what they say about train drivers with big feet ladies?...... no, can't think, I've got nothing, sorry ... make up your own inuendo - 07/12/12
Two uHSTs pass at Callow Hill Brinkworth, one eastward bound and one west - ensuring the equilibrium of people moving across the country. What's more interesting is that the driver of the westbound train appears to have nodded off. Click on the image to magnify and you decide - 05/12/12
FGW's 43009 transforming travel (apparently) at Langley Burrell east of Chippenham. I somehow managed to transform another backlit shot (come on Pete!!) into a half decent record - 03/12/12
43169 passes a field flooded by the River Avon at Claverton in the Avon (surprise) valley. This is the diverted 11.30 Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads. The River Avon is only just the other side of the railway and the flood water comes into the field through a farmers access passage under the railway just behind the large tree to the right - 23/11/12
43003 ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL (now there is a name worth carrying on a locomotive (and absolutely immense in Scrabble) (if you could do names!)) powers through Strap lane near Upton Noble with a FGW service from the capital. Although well "out in the sticks" Strap lane appears to be well known to railway photographers and there's always a crowd scene there competing for the best couple of square feet whenever a special comes through. Apparently square feet is also a well-known affliction of railway photographers for which medical science has no known cure - 19/10/12
Another very relaxed character - look no hands! - pilots 43130 through Bratton on approach to Heywood road junction Westbury. Breaking all the rules about sun over the shoulder etc again, it's not that I'm some sort of rebel or like a challenge - it's just that I'm not too bright (no light-related pun intended!) and get excited easily when something comes into view- 04/10/12
43168 going.. well like a train really, with a FGW service for London - it must be worth a visit if all these FGW services are anything to go by. Location is Patney - 20/09/12
43024 seen at another well known location just east of Westbury, passing the moth-balled Lafarge owned Westbury cement works. It seems that it is impossible to take an image like this one without including the entire chimney, it's a brave man that cuts it off half-mast and I've yet to see it - 11/09/12
Another "classic" location ticked off - 43079 breezes through Thingley near Corsham heading for London. It's a challenge to find a spot or viewpoint that hasn't been visited by someone else before but hope springs eternal - saving up for a microlight, lets see you guys compete with that!! - 07/09/12
Very pleased with this view of uHST at Bruton with a service for London Paddington. Just proves the point that it's often worth firing the camera up for HSTs and multiple units when waiting for something else - 03/09/12
Sydney Gardens Bath again and 43094 again, more leaning over the garden fence again - 07/08/12
Woodborough loops earning their corn in this one, 59104 waits for the green light to carry on westward with empties for the Mendips while 59204 waits for the road with 6L21 Whatley to Dagenham as uHST races the approaching rain storm heading east - 15/05/12
43025 passes a cow at Bathampton (I forgot to ask "how now?") - 11/05/12
Two uHSTs meet at Crofton. Although unidentified I'm pretty sure they are both owned by First Great Western and that at least one of them was going to London! - 17/04/12
Continuing my tour of well known spots around the South West, 43188 passes my home-made Tardis at Crofton, it works OK but landed a bit too close to the track for my liking, could be an accident waiting to happen one day - 17/04/12
Wrong side of the tracks at Fairwood, still you've got to get the White Horse in right? 43165 Prince Micheal of Kent rounds the Westbury avoider (can you call it that or maybe bypass (or is a bypass just for roads..hmm - discuss.)). Just noticed on the image, a friendly wave from the driver, always nice - belated thanks mate - 10/04/12
43013 seen on the rear of the Network Rail NMT at Bunns lane near Frome. 43062 was up front - 23/03/12
uHST namer approaches Oldfield park Bath, driver looks a bit apprehensive, maybe he doesn't like London - 01/09/11
43015 heads for Trowbridge at Hawkeridge junction with a service diverted off the B&H at Westbury. It happened by while I was waiting for Nunney Castle on the Weymouth Seaside Express - 07/08/11
